AFL 2024: Tim English will resume to Western Bulldogs training.
The Western Bulldogs have moved to clarify why star ruckman Tim English has been absent from preseason training.

Western Bulldogs star Tim English will return to full training after it was discovered that the health issues that had delayed his pre-season were not related to concussion.

The All-Australian ruckman has been absent from contact exercises since the Bulldogs resumed pre-season training earlier this month, citing a “medical issue” according to the club.

The club announced in a statement Monday that English had been kept out of exercises due to “migraine-related symptoms,” but that he would resume full training this week after it was determined that the symptoms were not caused by a concussion.

The club announced in a statement Monday that English had been kept out of exercises due to “migraine-related symptoms,” but that he would resume full training this week after it was determined that the symptoms were not caused by a concussion.

“The Western Bulldogs confirm that Tim English suffered some migraine-related symptoms in the weeks prior to the Christmas break,” the statement went on to say.

“Because Tim had previously had a concussion, the club wanted to be cautious and diligent in his management and spoke with medical specialists.

“Specialists determined that Tim’s symptoms were not due to a concussion and were more consistent with a migraine.

“Tim’s migraine symptoms have now fully resolved and he will progress back into full training over the next week.”

English, 26, missed a month of football in 2021 due to lingering concussion symptoms, and he missed two more games midway through the 2022 season due to delayed symptoms after a match.

Is Tim English the most improved player in the competition?

His clearance to return to full training will be crucial for the Bulldogs, who now only have Rory Lobb as a recognised ruck with senior experience after moving Jordon Sweet to Port Adelaide.

The sole backup options for English and Lobb are developing critical position prospect Sam Darcy (205cm) and 2023 third-round pick Lachlan Smith (203m).
