Joe Burrow suffered a wrist injury during the Cincinnati Bengals’ defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Baltimore Ravens are poised to be without Mark Andrews for the duration of the season after sustaining a catastrophic ankle injury during the first quarter of Thursday night’s triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow also suffers probable sprained wrist.
Joe Burrow was dealt yet another injury setback on Thursday night, just when it appeared that he had overcome the chronic calf issue that had plagued him earlier in the season.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback suffered a right wrist injury in the second quarter of his team’s 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, grimacing in pain as he attempted a practice throw on the sideline minutes after his four-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon.
Burrow left the game and was replaced by backup quarterback Jake Browning, who finished 11 of 17 for 101 yards and a touchdown pass.
“It appears he damaged his wrist. I felt it on the touchdown pass. I have no idea. “All I had was two seconds of information, and then we went out and tried to win the game,” stated Bengals head coach Zac Taylor.
Burrow struggled through the first month of the season with a calf injury sustained during training camp, and the Bengals lost three of their first four games.
In recent weeks, he has appeared to be in good health, leading Cincinnati to a four-game winning streak that included triumphs against the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills.
Following Thursday’s defeat, the Bengals are currently 5-5 and trail their opponents at the basement of a tough AFC North.
“When you lose your starting quarterback, it’s disappointing,” Taylor said. “It’s challenging. But I felt like our guys realized we were still in the game and kept fighting. Once again, things did not go our way.
“We didn’t put enough points on the board and didn’t figure out how to keep them off the board. But, you know, I truly felt like the guys stayed in the correct mindset throughout the game. We just didn’t finish it.”
Andrews is slated to miss the rest of the season
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh says tight end Mark Andrews is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering an ankle injury in Thursday’s win.
Andrews went down in pain on the first drive of the game after a tackle from a Bengals linebacker, receiving on-field treatment before hobbling to the medical tent.
He eventually went to the X-ray room and did not return, and the effect of his loss was echoed in Lamar Jackson, who dropped his helmet in despair at the sight of his most trusted target being harmed.
“We have been bread and butter. Peanut butter with jelly. “Whatever you call it,” Jackson replied. “But that’s extremely difficult since that’s my boy. That reminds me of receiver one at times. And for him to go in the first quarter after having such a successful year. I believe we’re one touchdown away from a record. That’s rough, man.
“But we’ve got to do it without him.” We received (Isaiah). We probably got Charlie (Kolar). We have guys who are going to step up, but it is difficult.”
Andrews has 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns on 61 targets in 2023.
