Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (ribs) said he hopes to play Sunday against the Bears after ‘excellent news’ from scans.
Aaron Rodgers intends to be on the field Sunday when the Green Bay Packers face the Chicago Bears.
Rodgers indicated on Tuesday, during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, that he should be fine despite suffering a rib injury in Sunday night’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I got good news from the scans yesterday, so I plan on playing this week,” said Rodgers, who was already coping with a fractured thumb before to the rib injury.
Rodgers was hit early in the game, but he continued to play despite obvious pain until leaving for the locker room in the third quarter. Rodgers did not return, and Jordan Love completed the loss.
“There was an earlier shot in the game that kind of rattled the rib cage,” Rodgers explained of the injury. “I was stretching out at halftime and realized it wasn’t a muscle injury. Then I got hit again in the third quarter and had trouble breathing. I take satisfaction in not leaving games, and I’ve played through a variety of situations over the years, some of which received notice and some of which did not. But I was in a lot of discomfort and didn’t feel like I could move very much out there. I wanted to go in and make sure it wasn’t something extremely terrible.”
With Love looking solid-lite on Sunday, the Packers’ bye in Week 14, and a 4-7 record (losing seven of the last eight), there was speculation that Rodgers would miss at least the game against the Bears, if not longer.
Rodgers promptly shut down that talk on Tuesday.
“We’ll go to one of my favorite places down in Chicago and hopefully get a big win, get into the bye week and get healthy,” he went on to say.
Rodgers, who faces a depleted Bears defense that made Mike White look like Joe Montana on Sunday, could have a bounce-back day against his rivals after a difficult year.
