Trevor Lawrence’s injury on Monday night was a nightmare for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the third-year quarterback is not expected to miss the entire season.
Jaguars coach Doug Pederson described the injury as “just a right high ankle sprain” on Tuesday. “Everything appears to be in good condition and is steady. In a few days, we’ll find out where he is.
Lawrence was hurt in the fourth quarter of Jacksonville’s 34-31 overtime loss when Jaguars lineman Walker Little unintentionally stepped on his right ankle while he was bending over backward after being sacked on third down by Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
Following the sack, Lawrence was obviously hurting, and as the shocked Jacksonville audience watched in shock, he smashed his helmet down.
Players from the Bengals and Jaguars expressed worry as Lawrence writhed in agony.
Eventually, someone helped the Jaguars quarterback off the field and get to the locker room.

With five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Lawrence was out of the game with 258 passing yards and two touchdowns.
The next play, Jaguars kicker Brandon McManus, missed a 48-yard field goal.
Shortly after the injury, Lawrence was shown on the ESPN broadcast to be in the X-ray room. The Jaguars later said that Lawrence’s ankle injury made it unlikely for him to return.
