Rookie Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets departed the game against the New York Knicks early on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden after rolling his left ankle severely. The Hornets lost 129-107.
Late in the first quarter, Miller was cutting to the hoop when he grabbed a pass and went up for a layup.
Miller’s left foot landed squarely on Knicks player Josh Hart’s foot as he came back down and rolled forcefully. He was slow to get back up after being sent down on the court.
Miller played on for a few more possessions before being substituted out and heading straight back to the locker room. He was later declared out by the team due to a sprained left ankle.
In ten minutes, he shot five out of six
from the field, finishing with 11 points and three rebounds. For Charlotte this season, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft has averaged 13 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Hornets coach Steve Clifford stated he anticipated Miller to be considered day-to-day following the game, but he did not have any specifics regarding the injury.
Clifford expressed optimism that Miller would be able to return to the squad in time for Tuesday night’s matchup with the Miami Heat.
