The Memphis Grizzlies’ 2023–24 season is still hazy.
The team revealed that starting center Steven Adams, whose season was cut short by a knee injury in 2022–23, will miss all of 2023–24 due to surgery on his posterior cruciate ligament, which hasn’t fully healed since earlier this year.
Adams played in 42 games last season, all of which were starts.
He was supposed to miss three to five weeks after spraining his right PCL in a game against the Phoenix Suns on January 22. However, he did not play in the preseason and ended up missing the entire season.
Adams, who turned 30 in July, is in the first year of a two-year contract that will pay $12.6 million in 2023–2024 and $12.6 million in 2024–2025. Following that, he will be free to sign with any team.
The Grizzlies were just 23-17 in games without Adams in the lineup last year, despite a 51-31 finish that saw them win the Southwest Division and finish second in the Western Conference for the second consecutive season.
They will also be starting the season without All-Star guard Ja Morant for the first 25 games, and another important big in Brandon Clarke, who has been out since March with an Achilles injury, in another major blow to their frontcourt.
