Ollie Cooper Makes Newport County Loan Move.

Swansea City midfielder Ollie Cooper has joined Newport County on loan for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

The 21-year-old offensive midfielder joins Michael Flynn’s Exiles in League Two after making a breakthrough with the Swans last season.

Cooper made his first-team debut against Stevenage in the FA Cup, and later scored his first senior goal against Nottingham Forest in the same competition.

That followed a 2019-20 season in which he scored five goals in 16 appearances for the under-23s, including a hat-trick against previous champions Porto in the Premier League International Cup.

Overall, he has made five first-team appearances, and Cooper, who has been with the Swans since under-12, will now have the opportunity to gain more valuable playing time at Rodney Parade.

In a friendly match, Swansea City Seals defeated Newport County.

Swansea City won another pre-season game and kept a clean sheet at Fairwood, with goals from Ben Cabango, Josh Key, Joel Piroe, and Josh Thomas (2).

Cabango scored the opening goal, beating the County goalkeeper early in the second half.

Swansea’s advantage was then doubled by Key, who finished from an acute angle following a quick assault from the hosts, before Piroe converted a penalty and Thomas added a late brace.

Swansea also recorded another defensive shutout in their final behind-closed-doors friendly, allowing Michael Duff’s players to gain more vital minutes ahead of the new season.

The Swans had started well, with Cabango just failing to connect with an Olivier Ntcham cross, before Joel Cotterill was unable to reach a loose ball following strong work by Ntcham and Ben Lloyd down the left.

Just before the half-hour mark, the visitors got a rare glimpse of goal when a trialist headed over the bar under pressure from Harry Darling, while Jerry Yates and Key’s headers went over the bar and were saved, respectively.

It was goalless at halftime, but Swansea were quickly back on the attack, with Josh Thomas having an effort saved off the line after Key had reached the byline and hung up a tantalizing cross.

However, Swansea took the lead in the 51st minute when Cabango’s follow-up effort found the back of the net after a corner was half-cleared.

It was soon 2-0 as Thomas stretched the defending before Key converted Lloyd’s wonderful cross to the far post.

Darling was denied by a combination of crossbar and keeper when he met another Lloyd centre, and the Newport goalkeeper palmed away a long-range Ntcham shot.

The Swans extended their lead when Joe Thomas was fouled as he surged into the box, and Piroe converted the penalty.

Josh Thomas also continues his impressive pre-season form, sweeping home at the conclusion of a beautiful attack and then volleying in after Jay Fulton’s shot was blocked.
