Duke Basketball Guard Caleb Foster’s Status for ACC Tournament

Duke basketball is likely without the services of Caleb Foster for at least another week, maybe longer.

Looking to bounce back from Saturday night’s 84-79 home loss to archrival UNC and enter the NCAA Tournament on a high note via a second ACC Tournament title in as many years as head coach, it sounds like Jon Scheyer will have to prepare his Duke basketball squad to play without freshman guard Caleb Foster again.

Foster sustained a right lower leg injury during the second half of the Blue Devils’ Feb. 24 loss at Wake Forest. The former five-star recruit, a starter against the Demon Deacons and in the two preceding outings, has worn a protective walking boot and used a scooter to get around ever since.

Following Duke’s disappoint at the hands of the Tar Heels on Senior Night in Cameron Indoor Stadium, the 36-year-old Scheyer updated the status of the 19-year-old Foster.

Although Scheyer began by not completely closing the door on the possibility of the North Carolina native suiting up in Washington, D.C., he ended his statement by essentially ruling him out for the ACC Tournament:

“I would say it’s a longshot, at best, he’s ready to play next week. I think it’s very unlikely. He’s doing everything that he can in progressing, but he’s not close. He’s not. You know, I would’ve loved to have him out there tonight and for next week. But our team has to continue to get better. And hopefully, at some time we can get him back.
