NRL 2023: Reece Walsh to return a week early from suspension for Brisbane Broncos | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site

The phenom, age 21, is about to put an end to the Broncos’ long NRL title drought.

However, Reece Walsh left Red Hill barely three years ago after learning from Kevin Walters that he wouldn’t be playing in the first grade.

Walsh left because of what he perceived to be a broken promise and “inconsistent messaging” from the young star.

Walsh believed he had been promised an upgrade from his development contract to a full-time agreement that would let him to play first grade, according to a Courier Mail article.

But it never materialized, since the Broncos were down to only one roster space, and Brendan Piakura, another promising talent, was also guaranteed a berth in the first grade team.

The Warriors pounced and proposed an alluring contract to relocate across the Tasman while the contract status was unclear, which backfired on Red Hill bosses immediately.

After just one week in New Zealand, Walsh became an immediate success and knocked club talisman Roger Tuivasa-Sheck out of the No. 1 jersey.

At the time, NFL star Michael Ennis blasted the Broncos, saying he was “astonished” the young fullback was permitted to walk.
