Sean Casey won’t return as Yankees hitting coach after brief stint…
Once again, the Yankees are searching for a new hitting instructor.
Though the club expressed interest in maybe having him back after he joined them midseason, Sean Casey said on his podcast on Wednesday that he will not be returning to his role for family reasons in the upcoming season.
At the All-Star break, Casey, 49, took over as hitting coach for the team when Dillon Lawson was fired, with the intention of reassessing his future there at the end of the current campaign.
In a Wednesday-released episode of “The Mayor’s Office,” Casey stated, “It was a tough decision for me.”
“I believe I could have returned if I had wanted to, but no offer was made. For me, that moment is not ideal at this moment. Here, we’ll see what transpires over the coming years.
On the last day of the regular season, Casey announced that he had discussed returning the next year with general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone, with whom he had played together on the Reds. However, he indicated he needed to discuss it with his family first.
After giving it some thought, Casey concluded he wasn’t prepared to take on the full-time role with the yankees.
“Boonie and I had discussed coming back the following year and how that would work,” Casey stated on his podcast.
“I told him up front that I’m not going to be able to come back because I have my two daughters at home. My daughter Jillian is thirteen, and my daughter Carli is seventeen.
I also believe that after getting divorced a few years ago, I spent fifty percent of my time with those girls.”
