updating data regarding the NFL’s Ohio State Buckeyes
JAN 28: VEGAS TO BUCKEYES Two Ohio State Buckeyes will play in Super Bowl LVIII after the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions 34–31 in the NFC Championship Game in Santa Clara.
Defensive goals The Buckeyes’ Super Bowl representatives are Nick Bosa and Chase Young.
Bosa finished with three tackles and two sacks on Lions quarterback Jared Goff, while Chase Young finished with two tackles in the victory.
Former Buckeye Jameson Williams, who caught quarterback Jake Fromm’s lone touchdown throw on a 42-yard pass, had a strong game for the Lions.
With Stroud being named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers Association, he is now receiving some respect.
Stroud, the franchise quarterback who was drafted second overall, quickly silenced his detractors and continued to improve with every game.
Along with becoming the sixth rookie quarterback in league history to throw for 4,000 yards or more in a season, he concluded with 4,108 passing yards, third most ever for a first-year quarterback behind only Andrew Luck and Justin Herber.
Furthermore, Stroud became the youngest quarterback to win a playoff game and the first rookie quarterback to win a postseason game since Mark Sanchez in 2009.
Joining Tom Brady and Joe Montana as the only quarterbacks to top the NFL in passing yards per game (273.9) and touchdowns-to-interceptions ratio (23/5) in a season is the former Ohio State gunslinger and two-time Heisman winner.
VRABEL OUT JAN 9. After a disappointing campaign, another NFL head coach was let go, this time within the Texans’ own division.
After going 6-11 and dropping four of his past six games in charge, head coach Mike Vrabel was let go by the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday. Vrabel has been the head coach of the team for six years.
Vrabel has a 54-45 record while in Tennessee. He won the division title in 2020 and 2021 with corresponding records of 11-5 and 12-5. In three consecutive seasons, he led the Titans to the postseason as well.
Nevertheless, the Texans suffered a severe setback in 2022 and 2023, finishing 7-10 and 6-11 respectively, and missing the postseason in both years.
From 1993 to 1996, Vrabel was an Ohio State defensive end. In his four seasons, he racked up 36 sacks, and in his senior year, he was selected as a consensus first-team All-American.
In his final two seasons, Vrabel was also selected as the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year, making history as the second player to receive the honor twice.
Houston’s postseason aspirations were realized on Saturday night as Stroud guided the Texans to a 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, their first since Deshaun Watson’s tenure as quarterback in 2019.
With Tank Dell, Robert Woods, and Noah Bornw out of the starting lineup, Stroud completed 20 of 26 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns at the end of the game.
Houston will play in the Wild Card if the Jaguars win tomorrow; the opponent is not yet known. The Texans will win the AFC South and get to play Deshaun Watson’s new team, the Cleveland Browns, if the Jaguars lose.
HICK SIX DEC 28! Ronnie Hickman, a former star player for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is enjoying himself immensely on Thursday night football.
Hickman not only made his first interception of the season, but he also returned the pick for a touchdown, giving the Browns two points. Hickman was a former safety for the Buckeyes.
After battling his way onto the 53-man roster, Hickman, a former Ohio State standout, was first signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent.
Hickman’s performance as the play of the evening is proof certain that the work paid off this time.
OLAVE MILESTONE DEC 26 Chris Olave, a current receiver for the New Orleans Saints and former wide receiver for Ohio State, has had an incredible start to his NFL career.
