Shamar Joseph injury update: West Indies quick ruled out of ILT20 2024

A foot injury has ruled Shamar Joseph out of ILT20 2024. He will be flying back to the West Indies from Australia.

Shamar Joseph was forced to retire hurt after Mitchell Starc hit him on the foot with a searing yorker in the third innings of the Brisbane Test match. He did not take field again that day, but returned the next morning to run through Australia with 7-68.

Joseph’s fairytale performance helped the West Indies win their Test match against Australia since 2003, and their first in the country since 1996/97. This was also the first time they drew a series against Australia since 1998/99, and the first time they did not lose one in Australia since 1992/93.

Joseph was named the Player of the Match for his performance. His 13 wickets at 17.30 apiece, along with 57 runs at 28.50 from No.11, helped him win the Player of the Series as well. Joseph became the first West Indian since Chris Gayle in 2009/19 to win the latter against Australia.

Soon after his now-famous spell, Peshawar Zalmi signed Joseph for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League as replacement for Gus Atkinson, who is part of England’s squad for their Test series in India.

While there is still no update on the exact extent of Joseph’s injury, it has now forced him out of ILT20 2024, where he would have played for the Dubai Capitals. The second edition of the league began in the UAE on January 19, and will continue until February 17.
