Valverde comes to Emery’s defence after his departure from Villarreal
Just five days ago, the unexpected news was announced. Unai Emery left Villarreal to join Aston Villa in the middle of the season, a decision that caught everyone by surprise, including the Spanish club themselves.
But the Spanish coach is already on English soil and Quique Setien has been charged with taking the reins of the Yellow Submarine dugout in his place.
Athletic coach Ernesto Valverde wanted to talk about Emery’s decision in a press conference, referring to the 6 million euro clause that Emery himself paid to be able to leave.
“We are used to clubs changing coaches, not coaches changing clubs. You have to respect whether the club can do without your services or if there is a clause that the coach applies. Emery has acted in accordance with his contract,” said the former Barcelona coach.
