Celtic Board commit to Idah signing after Rodgers makes his wishes clear

The Celtic Board are committed to backing their manager by providing Brendan Rodgers with the services of Adam Idah by signing the 2024 Scottish Cup Final goalscorer on a permanent deal from Norwich City.

That’s according to a report in Daily Record this morning. The 23 year-old Ireland International arrived at Celtic on the last day of the January transfer window and scored nine goals in 23 appearances for Celtic, including vital goals at Fir Park, Easter Road, Ibrox, Rugby Park on the night the league was won and of course at Hampden at the weekend when his 90th minute winner secured Celtic a brilliant double.

Afterwards Brendan Rodgers to Premier Sport spoke about his intentions regarding Idah and it’s very clear that he wants the club to secure the player on a permanent deal.

Rodgers had earlier in the week revealed that he’s attended a very positive Board Meeting where the squad situation would have been discussed at length and there’s little doubt that this is where the manager told Michael Nicholson and his boardroom colleagues that he wanted Idah signed this summer.

“The board knows how I feel about Adam, that was the reason for bringing him in.

“He’s been a real catalyst for us, especially over the last few months. He’s a big game player. In so many big moments, he’s stepped up to the plate for us.

“I’m so happy for him – a boy from Ireland, a striker scoring the winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final against (the)Rangers. Wow. What a summer he’ll have.

“I don’t know if we’ll get him in the summer, the board will look at it. My talks with Adam will remain private because there’s a lot of work to do. But he knows my feelings and so does the club so we’ll see what happens.”

Norwich are currently without a manager and failed to reach the Premier League this season so will have to have a re-think as they look to try again to get up from the Championship next season.

Player power is always an important factor and as a Celtic supporter, from Ireland who has just had the best experience of his career playing for the team that he loves, you would imagine that his agent has been instructed to push Norwich City hard for a deal to be reached with Celtic.

I have always wanted to play for Celtic' - Adam Idah - BBC Sport

At the start of February it was reported that Norwich City were looking for £3m for Idah in the summer. Then as Idah’s success at Celtic got attention back at his parent club, that figure increased to £5m. His goal at the weekend appears to have added another £1m onto the Norwich City valuation so it might end up being £6m that’s needed to bring Adam Idah back to Glasgow Celtic.
