Watch: Kenny Payne, Louisville Players Preview Florida State
LOUISVILLE, KY: For the past few weeks, the men’s basketball team at Louisville has been playing with a similar formula: they fall behind early on, get better toward the end of the game, but it is still not enough to get them out of the hole they created.
That was precisely what transpired during the Cardinals’ most recent matchup with Virginia. With less than four minutes remaining and a final minute basket, Louisville overcame a 24-point deficit to tie the game at six points. Nevertheless, UVA eventually defeated UofL 70-64.
Louisville will need to defeat Florida State, a club they haven’t had much luck against recently, if they are to snap their current six-game losing run. The Cardinals have not triumphed at home against the Seminoles since January 20, 2016, having lost their last seven meetings with them.
Florida State’s defense, in head coach Kenny Payne’s opinion, is where it all begins. “They seem lively to me. They pursue you defensively and interfere with the game. You won’t always be able to run offense. Spreading the floor and attacking are required. They are an effective rebounding team. They have one player who can shoot the ball pretty well, and the other players can really, really drive the basketball.”
Prior to their matchup with the Seminoles, Payne, guard Tre White and forward Kaleb Glenn took time to meet with the media. They discussed the previous game vs. Virginia, previewed the upcoming matchup vs. Florida State, and more.
