Three East Carolina University baseball players have entered the transfer portal upon the conclusion of the team’s postseason run.
Sophomore catcher and utility man Joey Rezek, sophomore right-handed hitter C.J. Boyd, and redshirt freshman pitcher Bradley Wilson have all appeared in the portal in the last two days. All three were depth pieces on this past year’s team.
The Pirates saw their season come to an end late Sunday night into Monday morning when they lost the Super Regional finale against Texas, 11-1. ECU won the first game of the series 13-7 and led 7-2 in the seventh inning of Game 2 before Texas rallied and eventually won 9-8 on a walk-off. That momentum carried into Sunday’s game, when the Longhorns won comfortably. ECU lost 11-1 to finish one win shy of the College World Series.
Rezek appeared in a career-high 17 games this season, primarily being utilized as a pinch runner. He scored six runs and got eight at-bats total, going 2-for-8 with three RBIs. Both of his hits came in the 17-1 win over Coppin State in the Greenville Regional opener.
The 6-foot, 210-pounder redshirted in 2020 before appearing in four games last season.
Boyd appeared in 24 games this season, making four starts as a right-handed hitter against left-handed pitching. The Reagan High School product notched four hits, batting .125 overall. He struck out six times and walked once. In 2021, during his initial year in the program, Boyd appeared in nine games with two starts. He went 2-for-11 with a home run.
Wilson appeared in seven games, sporting a 7.04 ERA. He struck out eight and walked eight in 7.2 innings. The 6-4 right-hander’s best outing of the year came at North Carolina, when he worked three scoreless innings. But Wilson allowed four runs in his next appearance against Michigan, and surrendered three more in 0.2 IP against Radford. Wilson would appear in four more games the rest of the season, earning his first career save against Cincinnati.
