USU men’s basketball: Aggies sign Gonzaga transfer

Another piece was added to the 2024-25 men’s basketball team on Monday.

Pavle Stosic had already made it be known on social media that he was headed south to Logan from Gonzaga. Utah State head men’s basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun made it official to start out this week. Stosic will be a sophomore and have three years of eligibility left.

The forward stands 6-foot-9 and is 215 pounds. He saw action in 14 games for the Bulldogs, averaging 1.0 points, 0.8 rebounds and blocked three shots. He averaged 3.3 minutes a game.

“We are excited to welcome Pavle to the Aggie family,” Calhoun said in a press release. Pavle brings a unique skill set to our program as he can play multiple positions and his versatility makes him a great fit to our system.”

A native of Nis, Serbia, Stosic played two seasons professionally in Spain before deciding to try college. He played one season for Casademont Zaragoza in the Champions League and then one season with CBP Huesca in Spain’s LEB Gold League. He also appeared in eight games over two Adidas Next Generation Tournaments with Zaragoza U18.

The future Aggie has also played on his national team. He played with the Serbian Top 18 national team in the FIBA U18 European Challengers in 2021. Stosic averaged 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in five appearances as his team finished second in Group A.

With the addition of Stosic, USU now has 12 players on scholarship. There is still one more spot left.

The USU men’s tennis team finished at No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region final rankings.

Graduate senior Bodin Zarkovic, senior Stijn Paardekoooper and junior Sergi Micó Fenollar were ranked in the top 20 in the region singles rankings, while Paardekooper and sophomore Nuno Pinheiro ranked third in the region for doubles.

The Aggies posted an overall record of 18-5 and a conference mark of 5-1. They clinched a share of the Mountain West regular season title and finished 65th in the national ITA rankings.

Zarkovic was ranked fifth in the ITA Mountain Region singles rankings. Zarkovic competed at the first position, where he posted a 16-5 record and a 5-1 conference record. He was named to the all-Mountain West singles and doubles teams.

Paardekooper was ranked ninth in the ITA Mountain Region singles rankings. He posted an overall singles record of 13-5. Paardekooper, who competed at the second position, was named to the all-MW singles team and the Mountain West all-tournament singles team.

Fenollar was ranked 13th in the ITA Mountain Region singles rankings, as he posted an overall singles record of 14-4 and a conference singles record of 3-1. He competed at the third position throughout the year and was named to the All-MW singles and doubles teams.

Paardekooper and Pinherio were ranked third in the ITA Mountain Region doubles rankings. They competed at the first position throughout the season, posting a 10-6 overall record and a conference record of 4-1. The pairing was named to the all-MW doubles team.
