22-year-old driver charged in Page Road crash that killed UNC senior, injured 3
WTVD, Durham, N.C. The lives of two families have completely changed in the nearly two weeks since a crash on Durham’s Page Road that claimed one man’s life and injured three more.
It was on Page Road, close to Comstock, at around three in the morning on October 5. Rahman Mateen, a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus who wanted to work as a sports agent, was among those tossed from the vehicle.
Rahim, his twin brother, raced home to be at the hospital with him.
“Our last name is Mateen, it means strong, firm, so we believe he’s going to be strong, he’ll be all right; if anyone can bounce back from this, it’ll be Rock,” Mateen Rahim
Rahman Mateen fractured his neck and spine and required a 12-hour surgical surgery. He is on a ventilator and still cannot move his legs. He has a long recovery ahead of him.
“I just turned around and started crying right there and it was really hard, but I know I had to be there for my brother,” said Rahim.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with his bills and has been paying him round-the-clock visits at Duke Medical Center. They expressed their gratitude for the support from the community.
Elijah Jayden Hawkins-Maynor, a friend of Rahman’s, also perished in the same collision.
