Howard Stern and Alison Berns kept their divorce settlement extremely private.
We have seen this in the past, divorce settlements leaving more questions than answers. That was the case for Howard Stern and his first divorce alongside Alison Berns.
In the following, we’re going to take a closer look at what would lead to the divorce, and what the rumored settlement was said to have been. Details have been very limited, and it should be noted that nothing was confirmed by either side. All we can do in the following is speculate as to what was written about Stern’s divorce from Berns years ago.
In addition, we’ll take a closer look at how Stern struggled following the divorce, and how he was finally able to get back on his feet years later.
Way back in 1978, Howard Stern tied the knot, marrying his first wife, Alison Berns. As fans identified due to awkward exchanges on the radio, things weren’t always the smoothest between the two. During one particular exchange, Berns went on a rant, blasting Howard and stating that he had changed. Of course, during the ’90s, Stern’s show got a lot edgier, and likely caused problems behind the scenes in his marriage.
Despite Howard Stern being open about the struggles he faced after the divorce was finalized, the terms of the settlement were not disclosed. It is likely that perhaps an NDA was signed at some point. It was also said that the two did not have a prenup. NY Post speculated back in 1990 that the settlement might’ve been worth $40 million, given Stern’s $80 million net worth at the time.
The publication writes, “Alison Stern’s split from shaggy-haired shock jock Howard Stern could earn her as much as $40 million if the couple decides to divorce, say divorce experts. That’s because Howard pulls down $20 million a year and is reportedly worth as much as $80 million – all money he made during his 21-year union with Alison. And the Sterns never drew up a prenuptial agreement.”
“Under New York law, she’s entitled to half – and it was all acquired during their marriage, which began before he reached celebrity status,” famed divorce lawyer Raoul Felder told The Post.”
