As the code war rages on, the Sydney Roosters are poised to launch a surprise attack to bring Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase into the 13-man match from rugby union.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Roosters coach Trent Robinson is scheduled to meet with Nawaqanitawase next week, possibly as a form of retaliation for Joseph Suaalii’s decision to switch to rugby.

Throughout the previous two seasons, Nawaqanitawase was among the Wallabies’ most promising players. He also started for them in their unsuccessful 2023 World Cup campaign.

With Dom Young, a former Knights standout, joining the team in 2024, the Roosters will have an abundance of outside backs.

Daniel Tupou and Junior Pauga are already signed with the Roosters through 2024, but it’s expected that the former will leave, and Suaalii will play rugby following the next season.

Since making his debut in 2022, Nawaqanitawase, 23, has scored five tries in 11 Tests for Australia and 27 tries in 45 appearances for the Waratahs.

The possible defection of Nawaqanitawase would be devastating for rugby union, which is still attempting to recover from a terrible season led by the now-retired Wallabies coach Eddie Jones.

When he is still learning the position, Nawaqanitawase will probably play wing, but he may eventually be able to play fullback if James Tedesco decides to hang up his boots.

Although there is no assurance that star fullback Cody Ramsey will play rugby league again, the Dragons are allegedly considering offering him a contract extension.

According to the SMH, Red V powerbrokers are reportedly trying to prolong his current contract in an effort to give him more time to heal from his sickness.

His current contract expires at the end of the 2024 season, and his extension is expected to keep him with the Dragons until the end of 2025.

In a selfless move, the club has agreed to pay his salary in full; the balance owed on his present contract will presumably be divided and paid over the course of the following two seasons.

To upgrade him to a playing contract, the team will need to open a top-30 position if he recovers and is ready to play.

Due to ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, Ramsey has been unable to play and has missed the entire 2023 season.

After becoming the team’s starting fullback, the 23-year-old became unwell around Christmas 2022 and has undergone more than ten operations, which have prevented him from playing.
