For the Milwaukee Brewers, the most pressing decision of the summer has been whether or not to move Corbin Burnes. The Brewers appear to have decided after hearing the trade talk.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Burnes is now anticipated to stay with Milwaukee. The Brewers are eager to contend for the NL Central championship once more.

Burnes’ free agency will end after the 2024 season. Many pundits thought Burnes would be traded rather than let him walk for nothing. But the Brewers are ready to start the season with Burnes on their roster after having an abrupt change of heart.Milwaukee’s 92-70 record helped them win the NL Central. The Brewers are aware that this team is still capable of competing, despite their lackluster playoff performance. However, the Brew Crew would be far better off with Burnes in their lineup if they wish to be real contenders.

In 2023, Burnes made 32 starts and finished with a 10-8 record, 3.29 ERA, and 200/66 K/BB ratio. During his six-year tenure with the Brewers, Burnes has amassed a 45-27 record, an 870/206 K/BB ratio, and a 3.26 ERA. He earned the NL Cy Young Award in 2021 and has been a member of the All-Star squad for the last three seasons.

Things for Milwaukee might change quickly. When Craig Counsell ran off to join the Chicago Cubs, they got to witness that firsthand. But the objective hasn’t changed even with Pat Murphy taking over as manager of the Brewers. In order for the Brewers to contend for the postseason once more in 2024, Corbin Burnes should be in the leadoff spot in the rotation.

Milwaukee’s situation might quickly alter. Craig Counsell’s departure for the Chicago Cubs was a direct result of what they witnessed. However, the objective hasn’t changed despite Pat Murphy becoming the Brewers’ new manager. Corbin Burnes should head the rotation if the Brewers hope to make a deep run at the playoffs in 2024.
