How a Top-Secret Michigan Visit Sealed the Deal for 5-Star QB Bryce Underwood’s Commitment Flip from LSU Tigers
The Michigan Wolverines made waves a week ago when reports came out that they were willing to offer $10 million to No. 1 overall high school quarterback Bryce Underwood in order to get him to flip his commitment from the LSU Tigers. The Wolverines made even bigger waves on Thursday afternoon when the flip was announced, despite an abundance of buzz that the move wouldn’t be happening. While Underwood himself posted cryptic messages to his social media that suggested he would be staying in LSU over the past week, Sherrone Moore and his Michigan brass were ultimately able to land one of the biggest flips in recent college football memory. So how did they do it? More details on that are starting to come out.
According to a new report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Michigan successfully hosted Underwood for a top-secret multi-day visit in Ann Arbor this past week, keeping all wind of it out of the news. Zenitz says that Underwood spent multiple days around the Michigan program while they prepared for this weekend’s game against Northwestern, including a day where the 5-star QB shadowed Moore for the entire day, sitting in on meetings and getting an in-depth look at where the program currently is.
“Those days on campus essentially sealed the day for Michigan and set them up for the bombshell news that Underwood dropped Thursday evening,” Zenitz wrote. Michigan finally got their man, who is a hometown kid that says he felt spurned by the previous coaching staff of Jim Harbaugh and QB coach Matt Weiss. Zenitz reports that Moore and his staff had to repair that “broken relationship” and convince Underwood that he was desperately wanted in Ann Arbor. The end result was Underwood, the No. 1 player in the 2025 class, telling the Michigan staff on Wednesday that he planned to flip his commitment and make it public on Thursday.
