Former LSU player turned Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was detained on suspicion of unlawful gaming.

Louisiana State Police stated on Thursday that Kayshon Boutte, a wide receiver with the New England Patriots and a former LSU student, had been detained and charged with computer fraud and gambling forbidden for persons under 21. According to court filings, Boutte was taken into custody at the East Baton Rouge Parish jail and later freed after securing a $600,000 bond.

Boutte, who was 20 at the time, allegedly engaged in sports betting between April 6, 2022, and May 7, 2023. Police claim that Boutte utilized an alias during this time to get over Louisiana’s legal age requirement for placing sports bets. According to the authorities, they were alerted by an internet gambling operator about sports bets placed by someone who was not allowed.

During his time as a player at LSU from 2020 to 2022, Boutte is said to have placed some of the bets that he did.

Over 8,900 wagers were made with the pseudonym account that Boutte is thought to have used. At least 17 of the bets were on college football games, with at least six of those being on the football team at LSU.

The Athletic was able to receive a copy of the affidavit for Boutte’s arrest warrant, which said that FanDuel had inquired with the gaming division of the Louisiana State Police regarding the likelihood of a collegiate player placing sports wagers. Following an investigation, police discovered that on June 7, 2023, Boutte opened a FanDuel account in Massachusetts. The bank card linked to the account was registered in his mother’s name, Tanisha Boutte. The affidavit states that Boutte selected the username “kayshonboutte7” for the account.

According to the complaint, on April 5, 2022, detectives subsequently found another account associated with Boutte, named Kayla Fortenberry. The report states that “kayshonboutte01” was the username of the account, which was also funded using his mother’s bank card.

Boutte allegedly wagered that he would score at least one touchdown in a Sept. 4, 2022, game between LSU and Florida State. He also allegedly wagered that he would have more than 82.5 receiving yards. According to the affidavit, both bets were a part of an eight-leg parley wager.

Boutte did not score a touchdown and only gained 20 receiving yards in Florida State’s 24-23 victory that day.
