An update on Adam Reynolds’ ankle injury
Star Brisbane Broncos halfback Adam Reynolds has confirmed his ankle injury isn’t serious after sending a major scare through the club’s pre-season training on Monday.
Vision emerged of Reynolds limping from the field, seemingly unable to put any pressure on his right foot following the session, with the star halfback, who will be crucial to the club’s chances of repeating their grand final efforts from 2023, sent for scans.
Those scans have revealed only a minor ankle sprain however, with the Broncos releasing a statement confirming it was a “foot muscle strain.”
“Adam picked up the injury in a drill towards the end of today’s session,” the club’s head of performance Dave Ballard said.
“He had a scan this afternoon at the Qscan Clive Berghofer Centre facility which showed a foot muscle strain.”
Adam is a quick healer, so we’ll see how he holds up over the course of the next day or two, but we anticipate him to be back on the field soon.”
The half is expected to return to the training field the following week, since preseason schedule demands a longer absence for him.
Reynolds stated there is a plan for him to miss the pre-season trials as the team looks to extend the longevity of their star halfback, but if it were mid-season, he would be aiming to miss no games, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Reynolds stated, “I would be pushing to be back playing this weekend if we were in the middle of the comp.”
“I tossed Deine Mariner a long ball and positioned him in the corner. I relaxed and stood on one foot while appreciating that. I fell as if I had been hit by a sniper.
“I plan to return by the end of this week.” There’s nothing to worry about. The trials won’t affect me because the original goal was to not participate in them.
Despite all indications that Reynolds will sign a one-year deal with Brisbane to play until 2025, he missed a few games in 2023, raising concerns about his fitness.
The most likely backup choice for Reynolds at number seven jumper in 2024 will be Jock Madden, an ex-Wests Tiger who is vying for more playing time at the team and the chance to take over as the team’s leader should Reynolds decide to put up his boots.
The Broncos participate in the preseason challenge against the Cowboys and Sea Eagles before traveling to Las Vegas to play in the historic doubleheader against the Sydney Roosters that will kick off the NRL season on March 2 (March 3 Australian time).
