Georgia Tech to Host ‘White Out’ Crowd for UNC Basketball

For the UNC basketball team, playing in front of a “white out” crowd is nothing new. There was one occasion in late November. Then, as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, the currently-ranked third Tar Heels (17-3, 9-0 ACC) defeated currently-ranked fifth Tennessee 100-92 at home in the Smith Center.

However, UNC will find out how it does in a “white out” on the road when the Tar Heels, who have won 10 consecutive overall, take on unranked Georgia Tech (9-11, 2-7 ACC) in the McCamish Pavilion on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).

The Yellow Jackets’ social media team began advertising their attire plans for the fans late last week:

Georgia Tech is 3-12 against the Tar Heels in their last 15 meetings and is in desperate need of any help—possibly even a miracle at this point in the season—to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Furthermore, UNC has won three straight games in the series versus the Yellow Jackets, amassing an impressive 72-27 all-time record.

But there’s a “trap game” moniker attached to this excursion. The Tar Heels, who have only lost once this season on neutral courts, need to be careful not to get too excited about their rivalry matchup with Duke on Saturday in Chapel Hill.

Having said that, keep in mind that Georgia Tech’s most noteworthy accomplishment this season was defeating the now-No. 7 Blue Devils (16-4, 7-2 ACC) in Atlanta at the beginning of December.
