Poor run blocking by the offensive line has drawn criticism, while play calling by head coach Matt LaFleur has drawn scrutiny. He has come under fire, specifically, for failing to place his running backs in advantageous situations.

Many people claim that MLF is an excellent play caller, but in all honesty, I don’t see it. He seems really predictable to me. How many times have we watched pre-snap formations and thought, “This is another run up the middle, and it’s a run up the middle 90 percent of the time”? The 49ers repeatedly exposed his play calling. The league has caught up with the rest. Although I won’t claim that Rodgers created LaFleur, I believe that he was essentially another coach in terms of scheme selection and mentoring the younger players—even if that guidance was limited to correcting misdirected passes or incorrect blocks.
I remember seeing Love’s collegiate highlights following his draft by Gute. This guy isn’t a particularly accurate passer, so I’m curious what Gute saw to warrant trading up to take him in the first round. It should be noted that he did lead FBS schools in interceptions during one of his college years. Oddly enough, his accuracy with the long ball seemed to be fine. He can no longer throw deep and hide the broad side of a barn.
One is a versatile player that excels in both passing and sprinting situations. His play frequently determines how the Packers’ offense plays out.
