Race Thompson, a former Indiana basketball forward, said on Instagram that he had sustained a major injury that would set back his professional future.

Thompson revealed on Instagram that he shattered his ‘right tibia plateau two months ago’.

“Imma be back and better than ever trust that!” Thompson shared on his Instagram story. “Been off the grid and wanted to give a little update.”

Prior to the injury, Race Thompson had secured a contract to play for the New York Knicks in this year’s NBA 2K24 Summer League. However, due to his injury, he would be unable to play.

Thompson spent six seasons with Indiana and established himself as one of the team’s top role players.

In his final season with Indiana, he averaged 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 30 games. Thompson averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 130 games for Indiana basketball.

He started 91 of his last 92 games. Throughout his career, he shot 51.1% from the floor (340-of-744) and 64.6% from the free throw line (204-of-316).

Thompson had injuries that kept him out of the game at times while playing for Indiana basketball. His most recent injury occurred during Indiana’s road defeat to Iowa, which caused him to miss an extended length of time.

He would eventually return and cap his career by helping Indiana to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under Mike Woodson.
