Roquan Smith offers sincere congrats letter to incoming Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald
On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks announced Mike Macdonald as their next head coach, effectively ushering in a new era.

Macdonald most recently served as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator for two seasons. He anchored a Ravens defense that led the NFL in points per game allowed (16.5) this season.

Roquan Smith was one of the players that improved their game under Macdonald. Over the previous two seasons, Smith has grown as a versatile linebacker, capable of dropping back in coverage and assisting in run defense.

On Friday, the Seahawks’ official X account posted a photo of three Ravens players saying their last goodbyes to Macdonald. Among them, Smith expressed gratitude to Macdonald for all of his services while with the Ravens.

“Mike, I’m so excited for you,” Smith remarked. “I understand how hard you work day in and day out to achieve the results. And it’s kind of sad, bittersweet to see you go because I was looking forward to so many more years. Why the Seahawks Hired Mike Macdonald, a Coach Too Smart to Fail - Sports Illustrated

“It seemed like Seattle had taken a large part of me away. But hey, I’m very excited for you, man. I know you and your wife are going to do fantastic up there. You’ll enjoy it. And I know Seahawks Nation, or whatever you call it, is going to do great. And they are grateful to have you, my boy, with so much love and respect.

The Ravens quickly found Macdonald’s replacement, naming Zachary Orr as their new defensive coordinator on Thursday. For the previous two seasons, Orr coached Baltimore’s inside linebackers.
