Knicks had already agreed to a $75 million contract extension for a key player.
This offseason, the New York Knicks have been largely silent. Could there possibly be movements in the works for them?
So far, the Knicks have made a couple unremarkable acquisitions. They traded away Obi Toppin, a 2021 lottery pick, and acquired Donte DiVincenzo for a four-year, $47 million contract.
The Knicks seem to be putting more of an emphasis on building their squad internally, according to New York Daily News insider Stefan Bondy. Josh Hart is reportedly set to sign a $75 million, four-year contract deal with the Knicks. According to Bondy, Hart’s contract “will be delivered in August.”
Immanuel Quickley, a breakout guard, is also hoping for a longer contract. However, Quickley is reportedly pursuing a deal much more lucrative than Hart’s reported arrangement, according to Bondy. October is when the Knicks have to finalize a deal with their fourth-year guard.
Midway through the 2022–2023 season, Hart was acquired via trade from the Portland Trail Blazers. With an average of 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds on 58.6% shooting from the field, Hart proved to be a perfect complement to head coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotation.
Hart became eligible for an extension when he chose to exercise his $12.9 million player option for the next season.
Last season, Quickley had a career-best year. The Sixth Man of the Year finalist set career highs with his averages of 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 44.8% field goal percentage. In addition, the 24-year-old missed just one game in the previous campaign and developed into an excellent guard defender.
Next season, Quickley will play in the last year of his rookie contract, which is expected to pay him over $4.2 million.
