The Atlanta Braves have traded a former Houston Astros player to the Chicago White Sox…

For the second time in a week, a former catcher for the Houston Astros is in the mix.

Earlier this week, Max Stassi—who spent the first six plus years of his career playing for the Astros—was traded by the Los Angeles Angels to the Atlanta Braves.

Just one day later, Stassi was traded from Atlanta to the Chicago White Sox.

Although Stassi has quietly been one of the league’s best catchers, fans’ perceptions may have been influenced by recent events. He took care of his prematurely born child during the entire 2024 MLB season.

following a stellar 2020 and 2021 campaign, the latter of which saw him slash.241/.326/.426 with 13 home runs, and he inked a $17.5 million, three-year contract extension.

Presumably, Stassi will now assist a struggling White Sox team unless a trade or transaction occurs. He might provide seasoned leadership to a struggling team that is uncertain of their immediate future.

Stassi might still be able to contribute some heft and reliability at the age of 32. The true question, though, will be whether taking a year off from baseball will have had an impact on his ability to perform at the best levels possible.

Regarding the Astros, it’s intriguing that they weren’t considering a possible reunion with Stassi after trying to find Yainer Diaz a back catcher. Age and reluctance to take a break could be contributing factors.

Nevertheless, after inking Victor Carantini to a contract last week, the Astros will start the 2024 MLB season with a set catcher. Kade Kistner
