Journalist denies Arsenal defeat would result in manager’s departure

Arsenal embarrassed West Ham United with a commanding display on Sunday, winning 6-0 at the London Stadium in front of a virtually empty home crowd after former captain Declan Rice scored a screamer in the 65th minute.

Rice was eventually replaced to a flurry of applause from the surviving spectators, but West Ham’s reaction to the final score was significantly less positive.

Following the defeat, the Daily Mail and the Mirror reported in their print editions on February 13th, 2024, that David Moyes’ new contract talks had been placed on hold.

According to the claims, West Ham sources stated in late December to early January that the club was ready to offer Moyes a new contract, as his present contract expired at the conclusion of the season.

That apparently altered with the defeat to Arsenal, with the club waiting to see how Moyes’ team responds.

However, Fabrizio Romano says that the Arsenal outcome has had little effect on Moyes’ condition.

Romano adds that the situation is still open, and that while a new arrangement has been negotiated, no final decision has been reached.

Following a 6-0 defeat, there will always be conjecture regarding a manager’s job, especially if it comes after a string of poor results.

However, it appears that it is too early to draw any conclusions about Moyes’ future, and the Arsenal defeat is only one small aspect in whatever decision is ultimately made.
