Myles Garrett is expected to become the next NFL player to earn $100 million.
According to people with knowledge of the issue, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network stated that the Cleveland Browns and Garrett had agreed to a $125 million, five-year contract deal. According to Rapoport, Garrett’s contract includes guarantees totaling $100 million as well as $50 million fully guaranteed at signing.
Garrett’s rookie contract expires in two years, and he is currently signed with Cleveland till 2026.
Although Khalil Mack (six years, $141 million) and Aaron Donald (six years, $135 million) inked extensions with larger total salaries, Garrett’s contract, with its $25 million annual salary increase, is the most among defenders.
Garrett was suspended for the last six games of the 2019 season, but he will be in Cleveland for a lot more games. The pass rusher was involved in a nasty altercation with the Pittsburgh Steelers and struck quarterback Mason Rudolph with his helmet before the NFL reinstated him in February.
With his size, speed, and athleticism, Garrett was selected as the first overall pick in 2017. However, injuries sustained during his rookie season and the suspension have caused him to miss 11 games in three seasons. In 37 tilts, Garrett has recorded 30.5 sacks, 65 QB hits, 104 tackles, and 32 tackles for loss.
He also earned 10 sacks in 10 games last year. Without a doubt, the 24-year-old is one of the NFL’s most talented pass rushers. The Browns are betting that the ultra-athletic edge rusher has not yet reached the peak of his abilities.
NFL teams pay players based on their future potential, not on their past performance. The Browns’ confidence that Garrett will do great things in the future is evident in his new contract.
