Unless the Guardians decide to trade him, Andres Gimenez will remain in Cleveland for a very long time.

Joel Sherman of The Post reports that the former Mets prospect agreed to a seven-year, $106.5 million contract extension on Tuesday, with an option to extend it to eight years, $128 million.

The 24-year-old Gimenez was also given a $4 million signing bonus.

Gimenez, who played in his first complete MLB season last year and was nominated for an All-Star team, was a crucial factor in the Mets’ 2021 trade for Francisco Lindor.

With 17 home runs, 26 doubles, 69 RBIs, 20 steals, and 66 runs, his slash line was.297/.371/.466.

In addition, he was sixth in the American League MVP vote and took home a Gold Glove as a second baseman.

Gimenez, who was formerly one of the Mets’ best prospects, was traded for Lindor and Carlos Carrasco along with Amed Rosario, Josh Wolf, and Isaiah Greene.

Later, Lindor received a 10-year, $341 million contract deal from the Mets.

The Guardians are attempting to lock up some of their core on lower contracts, even though it is obvious that they wouldn’t go that far for Lindor.

The Athletic reported that Cleveland has discussed contracts with Rosario, starter Triston McKenzie, outfielder Steven Kwan and reliever Trevor Stephan.

Cleveland signed star third baseman Jose Ramirez to a contract extension last year worth $141 million over seven seasons.
