Aston Villa is in ‘insistent’ touch for the £68 million’superstar’ who Tottenham also wants.

Aston Villa are still thought to be interested in signing Pedro Gonçalves from Sporting Lisbon, after his release clause has been published.

With only a few days remaining in the transfer window, Aston Villa has yet to make any new additions in offensive positions.

Unai Emery has shown a strong interest in a variety of players.

There have been numerous ties to Morgan Rogers this month, and the Villans may look to Jonathan Rowe in the winter window.

That being said, the sole confirmed deal of the window thus far has been Kosta Nedeljkovic’s return to the loan market.

Now there are some links to a player who was linked in the summer. His club has now placed a transfer release clause.

There have been numerous ties between Aston Villa and Pedro Gonçalves during recent summer transfer windows.

According to O Jogo, a number of clubs, including the Villans, are interested in signing him.

They have stated that “Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham United are back in the hunt for the Sporting star.” It’s worth noting that Aston Villa and West Ham had a ‘old’ interest in the 25-year-old, also known as Pote, and were convinced again by his recent performances.

“O Jogo claims that the two clubs have been sending ‘insistent’ questions to the midfielder’s agents about his situation, and are aware of how difficult the signing will be.”

According to FotMob, the Portuguese international has already scored six goals and provided six assists this season. This is enough to pique any club’s interest, so these rumours will not surprise anyone.

Sports Witness has now published information about his release clause, which may jeopardize a possible move.

Regarding that, they added: “Pote is protected by a €80m (£68m) release clause, and Sporting have been saying that they’re not letting any of their stars go in the middle of the season, meaning that amount would have to be paid for a January move.”

This would undoubtedly lead to the Gonçalves making a move in the summer rather than this winter. However, due to FFP rules, a £68 million layoff may not be realistic, even during the summer transfer window.

It is wonderful to be linked to players of this quality, but it doesn’t feel like a realistic move in.

Emiliano Martinez is the club’s undisputed number one, but there isn’t anyone really pushing him, with Robin Olsen producing mixed performances. That’s why Joe Gauci was signed from Australian side Adelaide United, and the shot-stopper was seriously impressed by his new home. The 23-year-old was asked what his first impressions are of Aston Villa’s facilities at Bodymoor Heath, and his simple response was ‘world-class’.

Of course, transitioning from a lower-league in Australia to the billion-pound machine of England’s top division will be eye-opening – learn more about Aston Villa’s incomings and outgoings during the winter transfer window.

And, hopefully, this will allow Joe Gauci to become a major player for Aston Villa in the future, especially with the club now expecting to remain in European competition under Unai Emery.

“World-class,” Gauci said of his first impressions of Aston Villa’s facilities. “I have never seen a facility exactly like it…. READ MORE
