Although it has always been clear what must happen, it now appears certain:

George Pettaway intends to make an NCAA Transfer Portal entry.

The story was first reported by Grant Grubbs of On3, as Pettaway was the second running back from the UNC football team to register his name on the portal.

George Pettaway hasn’t been able to establish himself as a reliable offensive player since moving to Chapel Hill before the 2022 season began.
Pettaway played in 11 games during his first season, logging 20 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Pettaway has seen even less playing time this year, as he has just one reception on the season, thanks to the return of veteran British wide receiver Brooks and the rise of classmate Omarion Hampton.

The UNC football team used Pettaway to log reps at wide receiver throughout training camp. That did not, however, translate into playing time, as Pettaway decided to remain eligible and reassess his options at the end of the 2023 season by choosing to redshirt.

The UNC football program has had a busy week as several Tar Heels have declared their decision to depart the program. Click the link below to get the most recent updates on the UNC football program’s roster and stay up to speed on all the news.
