Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow expresses concern after ‘tweaking’ calf strain in loss to Baltimore Ravens.
Joe Burrow “tweaked” his calf injury during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday; the Bengals have started 0-2 for the second consecutive NFL season; Burrow also promises to get wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase more involved with the offense.

Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, has revealed that his calf ailment could be a problem throughout the NFL season after exacerbating it during Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Burrow limped off the field late in the Bengals’ 27-24 loss, dropping them to 0-2 on the season, and later revealed that he had “just tweaked it a little bit again.”

Burrow, who missed the most of the preseason due to the injury, went 27-41 for 222 yards and two touchdowns after passing for only 82 yards in the season opener against Cleveland last weekend.

“We’re going to have to wait and see,” Burrow said afterward.

“I’m not sure how I’ll feel in the next few days. It’s pretty sore right now, but there’s no telling how it will heal, so I suppose we’ll take it day by day.

“We’ll give it a couple of nights, a couple of sleeps, and then see where we go from there.

“Whenever you have these types of things, they are always ongoing and something you have to manage. I’m not sure how I’ll feel over the next few days; we’ll have to see.”

When asked if he expected to have to manage the injury throughout the season, Burrow replied, “I’m not sure. It’s difficult to predict, to see into the future and see that.

“I’m doing everything I can to get healthy and get that thing the way I need it to so I can go out and perform the way I need to, to win, we’ll see.”

The Bengals rallied from a 0-2 start last season to win the AFC North with a 12-4 record, and Burrow believes the team is capable of making a similar turnaround.

The 26-year-old has identified getting off to a faster start as a critical aspect in allowing the team’s attack to thrive.

“When your quarterback is absent from camp, it is difficult to get off to a quick start. “It’s not an ideal situation,” Burrow explained.

“I am still confident. I am quite confidence in all of the individuals in that room.

“We always want to get started quickly. Teams are playing us gently and keeping everything in front of them.

“I think we did a good job of taking what they gave us today, but if you start fast, teams think twice about playing that way, so we’ve got to start fast.”

Along with Burrow, Bengals top receiver Ja’Marr Chase has had a poor start to the season, averaging only five receptions per game and scoring no touchdowns.

Burrow’s two touchdown passes on Sunday went to his regular secondary option Tee Higgins, and the quarterback admits he needs to do more to enhance Chase’s production.

“I think we threw him (Chase) a couple today, we’ll go watch the film and check it out,” Burrow told reporters. “It’s difficult to know from sitting here without having watched the tape. We’ll revisit that.

“We need to get him involved, he’s our best player on offense, so we need to find a way to get him off.”
