Toby Sexton aiming to lock down halves spot - NRL News - Zero Tackle

Titans halfback Toby Sexton has completed a mid-season signing with Canterbury, and he will join the struggling team right away.
Phil Gould, the Bulldogs’ manager, confirms Toby Sexton’s transfer.
Gould verified the rumors during a Monday night interview on 100% Footy. He expressed optimism that Sexton might join the team in time for their Round 19 match against South Sydney.

Gould stated, “I would hope that negotiations are finalized within the next 24 hours.”

“Toby was actually a scholarship student at Palm Beach Currumbin when he was in the Bulldogs system a few years back.

He ultimately relocated to the Gold Coast and began playing first grade. This year, while playing first grade, he broke his wrist. He is a smart young halfback, a skilled kicker, and an excellent game management.

“If we can, we’re going to give him a try.”
The 22-year-old is trailing players like Kieran Foran and Tanah Boyd in the Gold Coast’s playmaking ranks, having only made one appearance in the top grade this season prior to sustaining a wrist injury.

After Justin Holbrook was fired recently, it was evident that the team was heading in a different path. Phil Gould made the decision to step in and bring in some much-needed playmaking relief for the Bulldogs.

Sexton is scheduled to play in Belmore this week, where he is expected to team up with Matt Burton in the second half of the season, as originally reported by The Courier Mail.

After making his NRL debut in 2021, Sexton has played 24 games for the Titans. However, he has fallen out of favor, and because the team is seeking Ben Hunt for the upcoming season, an instant move to Belmore would be the best course of action for everyone involved.

Since then, Canterbury has formally stated that Sexton would be a member of the team till the end of 2024.

With Kyle Flanagan’s future hanging in the balance and teenage sensation Karl Oloapu still in the early stages of his first grade career, Canterbury has opted for a quick fix, and Sexton could end their playmaking woes.

Toby Sexton departs from the Gold Coast Titans
Jim Lenihan, the team’s interim coach, said in a statement on Tuesday morning that Sexton would be joining the Bulldogs, effective right away.

He stated, “Toby is a great young man who has been given the opportunity to play more first grade football. He has been a wonderful clubman.”

We didn’t want to get in the way of his decision to seize an opportunity at the Bulldogs. We appreciate him for all of his efforts while he was a member of the Titans, and I hope he seizes the chance that is in front of him and finishes the season strongly.
