Michigan quarterback Jack Tuttle is cleared to return for the 2024 season.
In 2024, the Michigan Wolverines’ quarterback room will be different without J.J. McCarthy.

However, an important member, Jack Tuttle, will return. His request to return for a seventh year of college football was approved, he said on Saturday night.
Tuttle, who had played for Utah and Indiana, transferred to Michigan last offseason and eventually took over as McCarthy’s backup quarterback. He will now get the opportunity to contend for the starting spot in spring football under new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Tuttle was expected to return to the program in some capacity, whether as a player or a graduate assistant. Last season, he completed 15 of 17 passes for 130 yards and a score to first-year wideout Karmello English versus Indiana. He also had four rushes for 35 yards throughout the season.

“He’s seen a lot of football,” offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell said at the Rose Bowl. “He’s participated in three programs, observing what worked and what did not work. I believe that has been beneficial to our room. Then he is mature. He’s quite mature. It’s wonderful for the other players to observe and learn from.”

Campbell also stated that the room as a whole made tremendous growth throughout Michigan’s 15-0 run to the national title.

“Every single one in that room has taken a step way in the positive direction,” Campbell went on to say. “I can go far down the line. I’ll just start moving down the list.Jack Tuttle is a veteran who came from a spread offense and is now transitioning to an under-center, play-action, pro-style approach. So I am learning a lot there.Alex Orji’s basics, footwork, and timing have improved dramatically throughout his career.

“Jayden Denegal may be the most improved player on the entire roster.” Excellent precision and a bright future for him. Davis Warren, despite injuries this year, has impressive footwork. Cleaning up some of those stuff, and he’s playing on time, confidently, and quickly as possible.

“So, to summarize, the group’s confidence. Understanding what we’ll likely get post-snap and being able to execute once the ball is snapped.”
