After “conduct detrimental to the team,” the Indianapolis Colts placed former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie on the reserve/suspended list for three games, thereby terminating his regular season.
Cornerback Tony Brown received a suspension as well.
When reporters were permitted inside on Thursday, the lockers of both players had been cleared out, according to the Indianapolis Star.
The team did not provide an explanation for the penalties, but an ESPN source claimed that the players’ actions reached a point where a ban was appropriate. The estimated cost of the sanctions to each player is $190,000. No player has offered a comment.
Brown and McKenzie were both healthy inactives for the Colts’ victory over the Steelers on Saturday.
Prior to Saturday, McKenzie had participated in all 13 games and served as the team’s main return man, averaging 8.9 yards per punt and 25.3 yards per kick. Despite this, he had misplaced two punt returns while serving as the team’s main return man. This season, Brown participated in 12 games and was a vital member of the special teams.
He has three rushes, 11 catches, and little over 100 offensive snaps to his belt.
Before signing a free agent contract with the Colts in March, McKenzie played for the Bills for five seasons. He recorded career highs of 65 targets, 42 receptions, and 423 yards last season. Along with a rushing touchdown, he had four catching touchdowns.
