Denver Broncos: View the full list of players on injured reserve

After Sean Payton joined the team, the Broncos had a stable coaching situation and had maybe their finest season since Super Bowl 50.

However, 2023–24 has also been another eventful season for the Denver Broncos.

In 2023, the Broncos had a better record and overall team performance, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions around the quarterback situation going into another summer.

For the first time since 2021, the franchise will have a first-round pick once more. The Denver Broncos are undergoing organizational change once more as they strive to regain their status as a serious contender in the AFC West.

Furthermore, a few players on the roster are probably not going to be around to witness that happen.

Quarterback Russell Wilson is among the most prominent players who most likely won’t be around after this season.

In a scenario like this, it’s hard to say never, but Wilson appears to be among the Broncos’ best chances of getting cut during the 2024 offseason, even if he has a $39 million contract guaranteed for 2024.

Why?

That’s a really complex question, and the response is also pretty complex. In context of the team’s choice and strategy, the straightforward response to the query—Russell Wilson hasn’t been good enough, especially not to guarantee $37 million for 2025—is a little subjective but not really debatable. And that’s the dilemma the Broncos are currently dealing with.

With one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL this season and a tendency to play well either out of structure or when the defense allows the offense three to five more plays per game, Wilson hasn’t performed well enough for the organization to justify spending $37 million a year in advance.
