Pat Dooley’s Back Nine: Gators Must Win a Lot of Basketball Games

10. We’ll start with the basketball game, which Florida nearly won. Just a few more made free throws or one made three by Will Richard would have given the strong Gators a much-needed win on the resume. However, Kentucky has some extremely talented offensive players, and Aaron Bradshaw’s late three-pointer was a stunner. “If a game comes down to a 7-foot guy with three attempts this season hitting the dagger, we will take that as an option,” Todd Golden, the head coach at UF, stated. I do not disagree.

12. But we’re going to get back into hoops, and baseball is just around the corner. So, despite all the negativity surrounding the football team, we’ll be fine here in Gainesville. I was energized after speaking with Sully on Sunday.

13. I keep asking for good news concerning the football program, but it arrives in small increments. But something must happen between now and August that will entice Gator fans to get up and go. Right now, I’d rank Florida 10th or 11th in the SEC, and it’ll take some getting used to making these picks with 16 teams in each sport. Removing divisions was a horrible idea.

15. Now that we know who is and is not playing in the NFL playoffs (I’m looking at you, Jacksonville), let’s make our picks. Dr. Football truly understands the NFL (not):

I’ll choose the Packers over the Cowboys because I’m getting 7.5 points.
I’m still not sure how the Rams got in, but I believe the Lions will cover the three points.
The struggling Eagles must go on the road as 2.5-point favorites versus the Bucs. There will be a lot of Eagles supporters in the house, so I’ll go with Fly, Eagles, Fly.
The Bills are 9.5-point favorites over the Steelers, which seems like too many points for a playoff game, so I’ll take the Curtain.

In a game between two teams I do not want to wager on, the Chiefs are 2.5 point favorites over Miami. But I’ll take the chefs.
Browns-Texans. That’s not getting my juices flowing. Good stories, nonetheless. I’ll pick the Texans and their 2.5 points.
16. Oh, and I guess I should make my pick for the national championship game because it is tonight, even though it has vanished from the national landscape because it isn’t Alabama or Georgia and everyone is talking about the NFL playoffs. So I’m going to take all of the fake money I won this season and bet double or nothing on Michigan delivering 4.5 points. Too physical, the Wolverines will wear down Washington and win.

18. You may think that taking two weeks off from the Back Nine would have given me more time to create a terrific playlist. And you would be correct:
