ATLANTA — On Wednesday night, Masyn Winn, the top prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals, launched his first MLB home run.
Winn, 21, launched a home run into the left-field stands of the ballpark against Atlanta Braves pitcher Darius Vines.
Jordan Walker, a close friend and teammate, welcomed him to the dugout after his home run.
This season, he has participated in 16 games and is hitting.167 with three RBIs and one stolen base.
On August 18, Winn received a promotion from the team’s Triple-A club, the Memphis Redbirds, following outfielder Lars Nootbaar’s injury.
For the Redbirds, he was batting.288 with 17 stolen bases, 61 RBIs, and 18 home runs.
The Cardinals selected Winn in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft. He became the third player selected by the Cardinals in the draft class to reach the major leagues, following Walker and Alec Burleson.
He made his major league debut as a shortstop at the age of 21 years and 150 days, making him the youngest Cardinal to do so since 1976’s Garry Templeton.
Wednesday night marked the second game of the three-game series between the Cardinals and the Braves. Tuesday night, St. Louis defeated Atlanta 10–6 thanks to four home runs.
