The Southern Professional Hockey League on Sunday suspended defenseman Jason Price of the Knoxville Ice Bears indefinitely for an incident that occurred in the last minute of their game on Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama.

Price was given a match penalty with 46 seconds remaining in the Havoc game for attempting to injure.

According to media sources and game footage, Price shoots the puck into the Havoc bench from his end. Huntsville prevailed 6-2.

The “puck struck the Huntsville trainer in the head and bloodied him,” according to the Peoria Journal-Star.

The Havoc’s game release just states that “tensions flared in the final minutes of the contest,” without elaborating on Price’s actions.

The SPHL stated that after league authorities have reviewed the situation, a definitive determination about Price’s suspension duration will be made public.

As of Monday morning, the Ice Bears had not responded to a request for comment made on Sunday.
After the penalty, Huntsville center Eric Witzel skated after Price, and the two clashed before officials separated them.

Another fight started once the peace was restored. Brian Billett of Knoxville and Tyler Steel of Huntsville squared off, resulting in game misconducts for both goalies. Steel knocked Billett to the ice, and the two were parted.
