Under the direction of Megan Lomonof, the Redbird Esports Overwatch team will participate in the Overwatch League’s Pro-Am West event.
Illinois State University’s Redbird Esports is the only collegiate Overwatch squad to secure a spot in the global competition.
In an open competition, over 200 teams from North America, Europe, and the Middle East fought for seven slots.
Redbird Esports is one of the winning teams that will play professionally ranked Overwatch teams in the Pro-Am West, which starts on March 23.
Top amateur teams get to play top professional teams in this unique competition, according to Coach Lomonof.
“We’ve demonstrated our ability to compete against some of the top Overwatch players in the world on a global scale.”
The 20 city-based teams that make up the Overwatch competition, an international esports competition, will begin play in the Pro-Am tournament in 2023.
The Overwatch team’s successful season continues with this victory. The Collegiate Overwatch Collegiate Homecoming National Tournament was just won by the Redbirds.
Rick “GiG” Salazar, Daniel “Grathen” McGrath, Landon “Vision” Monteferrante, William “Lyar” Ohlstein, Steven “Renko” Saucedo, Shawn “MovingFish7” Reddy, Thomas “Deeko” Buck, and Saad “Saadist” Khan make up the Redbird Esports team.
