Fans recently saw Justin Fields unfollowing the Chicago Bears’ Instagram account, prompting some to suspect the quarterback is on his way out.
He later explained to “The 33rd Team” that his unfollow was just for the purpose of decluttering his timeline, as he was about to go on vacation and didn’t want football to be on his mind. Fields revealed that he unfollowed not only the Bears, but also the NFL’s social media accounts.
However, ESPN analyst Mike Greenberg does not perceive the move as a simple unfollow. He believes Fields knows what happens next.
“Justin is well aware that he has left Chicago.” “He is well aware he is not coming back,” Greenberg stated on ESPN’s “Get Up!” program. They are trading him. He is starting the process of moving on. The best thing the Bears can do for him is get him out of there as soon as possible so he can start proving his critics wrong wherever he goes.
“No one has ever unfollowed the Chicago Bears because they are bored of the discussion on their feed. Unfollowing someone allows for plausible deniability. You get to make the comment, and then you can pretend you did nothing.”
While the idea of social media following appears frivolous, Greenberg has a point. If Fields was tired of the Bears’ and NFL’s overpowering content, why didn’t he simply silence the accounts? Why did he have to go so far as to unfollow the accounts, resulting in more unwelcome conjecture about his situation?
Fields admitted to “The 33rd Team” that he is tired of the chatter. He stated that he simply wants the whole thing to be over. Trade him and draft Caleb Williams. Alternatively, keep him and trade the No. 1 pick. He simply wants to stay up to date.
Another reason Fields wants the process to end is so he can plan for the upcoming season. He stated that he enjoys viewing film during the summer, but without a specific team to examine film for, he has been a little lost this offseason.
But don’t get it twisted: even though Fields knows he won’t be in Chicago next season, he would still want to stay here.
Yes, of course. “Of course I want to stay,” Fields told the St. Brown brothers on “The 33rd Team.” “To be honest, bruh, I’m trying to… with all the buzz [about Caleb Williams, his trade speculations, etc.], it’s difficult to just, you know, be in one place. But I can’t imagine myself performing in another location.
“If it were up to me, I’d want to stay in Chicago. I adore the city. The city is lighted. The fans there are fantastic. It is a business. I have no control over it. Whatever occurs, happens.
