We continue our examination of local teams winning championships in 2022 with a look at the Watertown Wolves, who raised fan expectations going into the 2021–2022 season and surprised them with yet another victory.

WWNY, or Watertown, New York The Watertown Wolves entered the 2021–22 season hoping to reclaim their position as the top team in the Federal Prospects Hockey League after missing the 2020–21 season due to COVID.

That’s exactly what the squad led by coach Brent Clarke would do.

The Wolves finished with an outstanding 43-12-4 record, 28 points ahead of the Columbus River Dragons in second place, and would go on to win the regular season championship.

“Yeah, I mean, I didn’t think we could make it any better, I thought we had the best team in the league last year,” Clarke responded.

“To be honest, I think this team is superior to the one we had the previous season. Bravo to the lads that were on our team the previous year and are currently being called up to the SP and ECHL. Our staff is performing quite well, and I’m thrilled with the group we put together.

The Wolves would defeat Carolina in a best-of-three series during the postseason to go on to play Columbus in the final.
