Paul Wellens delivers Saints injury update ahead of opening.
SAINTS will be missing Joe Batchelor, Moses Mbye, and Morgan Knowles for Friday night’s Super League opener against the London Broncos.
Batchelor has a collarbone injury that will hold him out for a few weeks.
Matty Lees, who missed the pre-season friendly, is now fit and available.
According to Paul Wellens, Joe Batchelor suffered a collar bone injury in the game against Salford and is expected to miss this week as well as the following week or two.
“That is frustrating for both us and Joe, as he is an important player for us.
“We hope he recovers quickly, but we will be patient with him.
“Moses Mbye has a knee problem, and we sent him for some injections that should help, but he is unable to play this week.
“And, as I indicated a few weeks ago, we were always hopeful that Morgan Knowles would be ready for Round One, but we would never push him if he wasn’t.
“Round One has come too soon, so by hopefully Huddersfield next week he will be fit and firing.”
Wellens stated that Mark Percival, who missed the friendly against Salford, trained today and came through OK.
“He is one that is coming in for treatment tomorrow to see how he has pulled up. But hopefully we get the green light off the medical team and he is good to play.
“If that is not the case we will shuffle things around with either Waqa Blake playing centre with Jon Bennison on the wing or Ben Davies can play centre with Waqa on the wing, but we have got a few options,” he said.
Newly promoted London Broncos have injury concerns of their own ahead of the Round One match at Totally Wicked Stadium.
