Four-star QB Trey Owens signs with Texas - Burnt Orange Nation

After joining the Longhorns in January 2023, Owens—the longest-tenured commitment in the 2024 signing class—became a pillar of the team and a strong recruiter.

k offer for Texas in the cycle and one of just five offers made by QB coach AJ Milwee. Owens was rated as a three-star prospect at the time.

Leading voice in the group, Owens participated in the crucial visitation weekend of June 23–24, which resulted in 10 of Texas’s 22 commitments, including two five-star commitments from Texas.

After deciding to attend Texas, Owens improved his performance and helped Cy-Fair win an 11–2 season with 3,303 yards and 43 touchdowns, which included an unexpected overtime victory over Katy in the 6A Playoffs.

As a full-time starter for the Bobcats, Owens passed for 6,360 yards and 77 touchdowns, earning him the title of district MVP in both seasons.

The 6’5, 205-pound signal caller enters a quarterback room trailed by one or two of the all-time greatest prep quarterback rankings.

 

Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback, has not yet decided whether to enter the NFL Draft, but rumors suggest he may be leaning toward returning in 2024 in order to raise his draft ranking.

The previous No. 1 recruit Arch Manning is waiting in the wings for his opportunity to hit the field, which could come in 2024 or 2025, with Maalik Murphy in the transfer portal.

Owens, rated as the No. 16 quarterback in the nation and the No. 43 player in the state of Texas, is no slouch in the backfield. He recently earned a fourth star on the 247Sports Composite.
