Florida’s Jacksonville The Jaguars are getting ready to play without their best quarterback in three seasons because Trevor Lawrence was at the facility on Wednesday but remained under the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Although Lawrence is “progressing well,” coach Doug Pederson refrained from speculating on Lawrence’s prospects of receiving clearance prior to Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay (7–7).
“Persistent in the procedure,” Pederson stated. “Going well, but we have to follow the instructions; we can’t omit any of them.
In Sunday’s 23-7 loss to Baltimore, the Jaguars (8-6) believe Lawrence suffered a head injury while scurrying up the middle during the team’s last drive.
Following the hit, Lawrence misfired on seven of his last eight passes, a run of plays that caused some concern for his health on the sidelines. Lawrence experienced discomfort after the game.
“He’s doing better,” backup quarterback C.J. Beathard said. He has spent the day in the building. I had the opportunity to chat and spend time with him.
Prior to their upcoming games, San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, Cleveland WR Amari Cooper, and New Orleans receiver Chris Olave were cleared to play a week after entering the league’s concussion protocol.
Beathard would make his first start since the 2020 campaign if Lawrence is not cleared.
“At this moment, I’m getting ready as though I’m going to be playing on Sunday,” Beathard, an NFL starter with a 2-10 record, stated.
And if (Thursday) or Friday—or whenever that day arrives—he clears it, that will be fantastic news for us.
