STEWIACKE, New South Wales — A minor hockey coach in Nova Scotia is being charged following an alleged assault on the referee during a weekend game.
Colchester County RCMP said that an arena in Brookfield, Newfoundland, filed a complaint with them early on Saturday.
The coach allegedly attacked an official during a game, according to the Mounties, but the official escaped unharmed.
The coach handed himself in to the Stewiacke detachment later, but he had fled the rink before the police arrived.
The man was given conditional release and is expected to appear in court later to answer to an assault allegation.
In a statement, Hockey Nova Scotia said that the coach has been suspended indefinitely and that the event at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex is being investigated by an impartial third party.
